The vision is to open the doors to all artists to come and create, rediscovering dance with each collaboration. PMPC is dedicated to developing, integrating and encouraging the area’s richest dance talent, as well as locally and nationally recognized artists in collaborative creations. Our goal is to inspire, motivate and enrich every student in the Art of Dance, Performance, and the love of Movement.
Performing/Competitive Companies (Ages 8-21)
Philly Movements Performance Company (PMPC) offers a Performing/Competitive Company to dancers ages 8-21. We have the following, Training Company, Performance Company 1 and Head Company. Dancers are required to auditions and are placed in these companies based on their ability levels. Any committed dancer can become a member of the Companies. A placement class will be held twice a year to determine the dancers' proper level.
Being a member of the Performing Company requires considerable focus and commitment. Dancers are expected to maintain a level of professionalism and a strong work ethic. If a dancer is lacking in any of these areas and does not address the issue, he/she risks expulsion from the Company.
This is for the serious dancer who wants to experience being part of a cohesive group working towards the goal of pre-professional performance. Dancers who are in the Performing Company will have opportunities to participate in dance competitions, company performances, and traveling overseas. Members will have the option of solos in their chosen genre(s).
The Performing/Competitive Companies runs September-mid July. Company members have one months off in the summer but we highly request dancers continue to take dance classes so improvement is not hindered. Company members may stiill have performance in the summer months.
Company members and their parents are expected to support and encourage each other and to exhibit impeccable sportsmanship at all times. Our members -- without exception -- are expected to treat each other, their teachers, parents, competition judges and fellow students from other studios with the highest level of respect. Winning trophies is nice, but representing ourselves with class and dignity is an absolute requirement. Company members are expected to purchase a company warm up to identify them as a company member.
Finally, parents of prospective members should recognize that participation in dance at this level involves additional financial commitments. Company members typically choose to attend more classes and perform more dances in our recital, which naturally results in more costume, shoe and accessory fees than non-Company dancers are likely to encounter. Both members and parents should decide if they have the time to commit to the Performance Company. No matter how talented a student is, if they don't have time to commit to the Company, and if they don't have enough parental support, then this may not be the Company for you.
Company members are required to take company classes which include but are not limited to Ballet, Jazz, Modern/Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop . Company Classes and Company Rehearsal are mandatory.
Registration for the Performing/Competitive Company must be done at the studio. Call to schedule an audition. If you have questions about the performing companies, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, stop by the center, or call 215-552-7445.
